Since entering the CAD, mapping and GIS field in the mid-1980s, Meridian has successfully completed over 4000 data sets for federal and provincial mapping programs. Working with the Saskatchewan government, Meridian created the backbone for the mapping of the Province. Private sector work has included mapping and CAD services for several of the largest pipeline and energy-based companies in Canada.
By the 1990s, Meridian's mapping department had gained an international reputation, successfully bidding on government contracts, including mapping for Ontario Hydro and TransCanada Pipelines. We earned several national awards in that endeavour.
Throughout several decades to the present time, we have led the industry in the production of base mapping, nationally and globally, including product design and refinement.
We have used our digital scanner and vectorizing software to create and clean digital files from hardcopy drawings ranging from topographic map sheets to compiled plans to engineering drawings.
Projects requiring topological structuring have involved scanning data or cleaning supplied data, adjusting to U.T.M. coordinates, tagging lines, coding polygons, vertical integration between themes and edge matching.
In 2007, Meridian purchased Blue Sky Development's Alignment Sheet Generator, which we have used to complete over 1500 kms of pipeline construction and as-built alignment sheets.
A project creating completion drawings for TransCanada Pipelines involved taking the existing Saskatchewan base map and adding all information available, such as crossing information, land ownership, pipe change etc. into a GIS. Queried information could be produced in a hardcopy drawing.
